From Makerspace to MIT: What Happens When Kids Are Trusted to Build Things
Over twenty thousand students later, a pattern has emerged. When kids are given real tools, real projects, and real trust, something irreversible happens.
WHERE IT STARTS
There is a moment we see over and over across our five makerspaces. Some kids walk in a little unsure of what to expect. Maybe they have been told they are not a "math person" or a "science person." But most walk in curious, ready to make something. Either way, they sit down in front of a 3D printer or a circuit board or a block of code and something shifts. Not because we told them they could do it. Because they did it.
MakeInspires was founded in 2011 with the belief that hands-on STEAM learning is not a supplement to education. It is the core of it. Fifteen years on, with 20,000+ students across Mamaroneck, Chappaqua, Brooklyn, the Upper East Side, and Darien, the evidence keeps coming back the same way: kids who build things become kids who believe in themselves.
ONE STORY THAT SAYS IT ALL
Oliver Rayner grew up in Mamaroneck. He came through our programs as a student, and what he found here stayed with him long after he left.

Oliver was a PhD candidate at MIT under Professor Jeff Lang, working on satellite dynamics and robotics systems. He came back to teach here between his undergraduate years. That is the loop we are trying to build: students who were inspired, who go on to do extraordinary things, and who want to come back and inspire the next generation.

That 96% return rate is the one we are most proud of. It is not a marketing number. WHY IT WORKS
