Summer FAQ
What will my camper be doing during the week?
Every day holds a new adventure with MakeInspires core STEAM! MakeInspires instructors work with their camp cohort to introduce various STEAM topics and projects, helping campers discover new interests and try a bit of everything. The first two to three days of camp will be an exploration into various subjects through guided cross-disciplinary projects, while the rest of the week allows campers to focus on their favorites.
Do campers go outside?
Chappaqua: Campers have supervised access to the Bell Middle School playground during the lunch hour on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday (weather permitting).
Darien, NYC, and Mamaroneck: Due to the high-traffic environment and limited access to outdoor space, campers will go outside during select activities for short, supervised segments within each makerspace's property line.
Is early drop-off or extended day available?
Early drop-off and extended-day may be available on request - there is a minimum of 2 students in order to run an extended-day activity. Please contact your local makerspace manager to inquire about options and availability.
Are campers grouped by age, grade, or interest area?
Campers are first grouped by their age, but this may shift based on camper interest as we explore our core STEAM subjects. If age-based grouping is not possible due to enrollment, instructors provide differentiated instruction and extra support to ensure all campers are appropriately challenged and supported.
Are there discounts for siblings?
Sibling discounts are already included into our registration pricing. Each sibling receives an additional 10% off your order.
What should I bring to camp?
-
Campers should bring:
-
A refillable water bottle (filtered water is available on-site)
-
A nut-free snack (and lunch if staying for a full day)
-
A change of clothes (recommended for campers ages 5–6 or those prone to spills/accidents)
Do I need to bring a lunch?
Families can choose to purchase the "Catered Lunch" add-on to have MakeInspires provide a fresh meal for your child every day. For catered lunch, there are no substitutions or singular meal requests. Meal details are found on each location's respective summer registration page. If your child does not like the catered lunch menu or has dietary restrictions, they should bring their own nut-free lunch.
